Mary and I took a weekend trip up to Burlington Vermont July 15-18. We had a great time, I got to meet alot of family, and we went to Bob and Donna's 40th anniversary celebration. It was a great trip, enjoy the pictures!

We went to the Ben and Jerrys factory outside Burlington and had a great time.

Mary and her Grandparents

This was taken after dinner of a long, fun day of traveling around. On saturday morning, we went down to the Jamestown settlement, where we saw what the first English settlement in America was like. Then, we drove over to Yorktown and layed out on the beach and swam in the ocean. It was a beautiful day, Mary has the sunburns to prove it. After exploring Yorktown, we headed back to Richmond, stopping in Colonial Williamsburg to eat dinner in a 1700s style tavern. We ate at a table with a bunch of people, and had a good time talking to them. We were serenaded throughout the evening with colonial songs sung by actors, which was kind of weird, but it was neat. They liked to shout "Huzzah" and "God save the King!". I guess some people really get into that. It was alot of fun, here are some pictures that highlight the day. Enjoy!

There was a big military camp on one of the fields with British and apparently Scottish units represented. Nice socks...

For dinner, we went to Williamsburg to a tavern. There were lots of historical actors walking around, since there was some recreation activity going on.

There were some caves down by the beach with perfect vines for a tarzan swing.

Downtown Yorktown

This is at the beach in Yorktown, a 30 minute drive from Jamestown. We tried to go to the battlefield at Yorktown, where the revolutionary war ended, but it was closed because the National Socialist Movement was having a rally there, and there were over 500 police in full riot gear making sure nothing happened. So we went to the beach instead.

On memorial day weekend, we drove out to the coast and found this cool island and had lunch and relaxed on the the beach. Chesapeake Bay is really beautiful.

In downtown Richmond, there are some canals that were actually designed by George Washington as a trasportation system. They stopped using them when railroads were invented, so now its more of a scenic walkway for tourists and such

A cemetary in Fredricksburg, all decked out in confederate flags. They are nuts about Civil War history here, its crazy. The Union cemetary is down the road ( I guess they didn't want to be buried in the same place...)

This past weekend we went to Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson. We had a great time exploring the house and having fun.

We went to this amazing plantation, Shirley, that was founded in 1650. Robert E. Lee lived here for a time as a kid, and Thomas Jefferson and George Washington spent time here as well. The inside of the house was cool, and there was even a polo field with people playing when we visited.

We went back to SVU for a funeral of one of Mary's teammates. It was a hard day for everybody, but it was nice to see old friends and teammates and talk about good times on the team. The girls in the picture were on the very first SVU soccer team.

We stopped at SVU on our way to Richmond so that Mary could show me her old school and hangouts. The buildings were really neat, and we had a great time. Here's Mary outside the main building.
